It’s a revolutionary new method of learning a language based on the ideas of famous linguist Steven Krashen. It involves listening to content and learning vocabulary in a context instead of in an abstract list or “fill in the blank” exercise in a textbook.
It’s very similar to how babies learn a language: by listening first and talking second.
With this method, not only will you learn new vocabulary in a deeper and more permanent way, but you will also achieve far better pronunciation than using other methods.
Because before using the new vocabulary, you hear it pronounced correctly multiple times by a native speaker. You absorb the sounds of the words first before trying to speak them yourself.
This is very different to when you learn new vocabulary by reading. When you learn new vocabulary by reading you have to guess the pronunciation. This can lead to permanent pronunciation problems because you create a habit of pronouncing the word in the incorrect way.
This is especially important with English because, unlike some other languages, the way words are spelt is not the same as they’re pronounced. So by guessing the pronunciation after reading from the page, there’s a high chance you’ll learn to pronounce the word in the incorrect way.
Using the comprehensible input method leads to excellent pronunciación as all new vocabulary is learned with the correct pronunciation.
Yes it will. Spending a lot of time listening to a native speaker use correct grammar helps you to learn how to speak correctly.
After enough hours listening, the correct grammar will simply “feel” correct, even if you can’t explain exactly why it’s correct (This is just like a native speaker).
It can be good to learn grammar rules sometimes as well, but listening is at least 50% of grammar learning.
Yes of course. Simple conversations classes are a great way to learn a language. You will get both input (listening) and output (speaking) in a conversation class.
